How about an option for the reading pane so that it only displays the message from a known sender and requires a click to view if its an unknown sender.
I hate when a piece of junk pops up in there after escaping the filter.

How about an option for the reading pane so that it only displays the message from a known sender and requires a click to view if its an unknown sender.

There is an option somewhat like that in Windows Live Mail Desktop beta (I don't know about Windows Mail). Just go to the options menu (Tools > Options), then the "Read" tab, then uncheck "Automatically download message when viewing in the Preview Pane".
Just a thought... But if you use Windows Mail you could send all unknown sender messages to Junk mail so you don't even have to look at the headers.
